In four days, Pittsfield. After that? I’ll go home.

I am planning a really special show for the folks back home. Pittsfield, land of our fathers (and mothers, baby's mama's, absentee fathers, whichever applies), is it even possible that somehow Pittsfield’s From Hell will be on the set-list, or in the encore?

Plus, I have a brand new CD, recently debuted at the HAC in Baltimore and sold throughout the region and on-line, and I will be bringing it, along with my rock. I know some of you have been getting hit over the head with this, via e-mail, and myspace, etc., (thanks, Andy!) but trust me, it will be a really great show. And, and, AND…this will be my last show of 2007. So it is extra triple special.

My Return to the Homeland!

Note: This message is only really relevant if you live in Massachusetts...but read it anyway!

The last time I played Pittsfield it was a younger, simpler time. I took the floor of the now defunct Source of the Nile, and for a whole new generation of fans, I showed them the path to “G.”
But good things were not to last, as Source has gone by the wayside. Undoubtedly, some of you are kicking yourselves for not having attended my one and only Pittsfield appearance (at least, the first one since 2001). Or there are others who were there and who are telling you all about it, and you are slowly torturing yourself over having missed the show of the decade.
It’s time to make things right.
In two weeks! I will be appearing once again in the Pitt. (Lenox, actually. Maybe you need a ride. But come.) Headlining a great show, featuring

Davey G and the Keyboard, the Poncherellos, and Millions Dead.

11/30 @ Flavours-Econo Lodge
130 Pittsfield-Lenox Road (7/20)
Lenox, MA

It’s a rare appearance up north for me…so come out and see what you’ve been missing!

The show for the Davey G CD Release at the Hamilton Arts Collective!

What a show! What a place! I cannot say enough about the Hamilton Arts Collective and what an amazing place it is for live performances. The couches are great, the people are nice, and for your dollar, it is one amazing and affordable night out. Please support them, by going to shows, friending them on myspace, whatever they need.

Pieness opened the show with something called “Journey to Silliness,” and indeed, it set the tone for a night that was in fact very silly (I mean that in a good way!). Her set was 20 minutes of video game music with vocals, set to the lighting of Imaginary Voyage, Inc., and was enjoyed by all. It was her first performance in a year, and hopefully we will be seeing more of her soon (right, Pie???)

The Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad kicked the crap out of that stage, played a song for a lady who wandered in and stuck her head inside Steve’s horse-head-gear to request an encore. They played the Milli Vanilli hit “Blame it on the Rain” and the crowd went wild. I love this band, and you should, too!

I had pumped this show up for almost a whole year, and now it was time to deliver my first honest to God attempt at being a…(a-hem!)…headliner. It’s risky to play for a long time, I think, because I’ve always felt my strength was knowing when to shut up (Dr. Demento himself said as much in my 1992 rejection letter!) But apparently it went well, because 19 songs later I was going an encore, which I did not practice for. I did a rough version of “Why Must We Wear Pants?” which I haven’t played since 2002, and then ended with “Billy W.” It was a great way to launch the CD. That long-awaited CD…

Imaginary Voyage’s lighting was such an unexpected bonus, I thank them for their efforts. It made me feel like the rock star I like to pretend I am.

And by the way--if you were there and have pictures, video, audio, whatever, I would love to have a copy. I will post pictures to my website, with credit to the photographer, and my eternal gratitude. Comment back if you have anything cool!

Thanks for reading, thanks for listening, thank all of you who came out! I hope you enjoy the new CD!

Chairman of the Keyboard CD Now Available!

Hey Everyone,

I will be writing a full review of the CD release show last Saturday, which will probably appear on my blog on Wednesday. For now I just want to thank everyone who came out to the show--it was great and everyone had a lot of fun.

Thanks to Pieness, the Dirty Marmaduke Flute Squad, Imaginary Voyage, Inc., and the Hamilton Arts Collective. It would not have been the same without the positive energy of everyone involved. It made this long-awaited event one that will be long-remembered.

And now, for those of you who didn’t make it…go to my website and order the new CD. It is 15 songs of keyboard pre-set brilliance, including the single “Office Supply Store.” On Wednesday I will make a full listing of the stores that are selling it in the Baltimore area. Or you can order it through the mail--send 8 bucks, either in cash or check to
David Cookson
P.O. Box 23568
Baltimore, MD
21203

And I’ll send it right out to you in a discreet brown package. (wait, that sounds yucky.)

Thanks a lot!

Only two more days.

of
Me: practicing, writing these little e-mails and bulletins and stuff, and additionally, causing trouble over at The Parochialist. (Question: is it okay to make up lies about City Paper if the lies are funny and completely ridiculous?)
You: going to the show. It's here. The Hamilton Arts Collective.

And...

Just go. It'll be an awesome array of awesomeness.

Putting up flyers...

I’m putting up a lot of flyers for this CD release. I have often wondered at the value of putting up flyers as a way to get people to come to shows--after all, when was the last time I went to a show just because I saw a flyer? And who the hell is this Davey G guy and why should anyone give half a crap that he is doing a show? But it is kind of a fact of life of the performer: I want people to come, and I know that if I didn’t put the flyer up, I wouldn’t feel like I’ve done all I can to boost the turnout. It's like one of those weird things that I have to do, even if I don't entirely understand why--like going to church or something.
So there they are--on poles, in restaurants, on some cars (with permission, of course) and every other day or so I’m checking back to see if they are still there, or if the wind or the rain or some angry garbage man has taken it down. In most cases, they are still there, and that makes me happy. It makes me happy to see my face on a pole and know that others can see it too, and are maybe, just maybe, thinking about coming to the show.

But after the show is over and I am no longer stressing about all the things related to the show, I will be happy when I can look at a light pole without thinking “that would be a good spot for a Davey G flyer.”

Only 9 more days ‘til the CD Release!
