10 reasons why you should see the next Davey G and the Keyboard show

1. You haven’t seen me since November.
2. I’m going to be playing 5 songs that I have never before done live.
3. It’s your chance to see a grown man covering himself in lotion.
4. All the accompanying acts are great, hand-picked by Davey G!
5. You loved the new CD, but you missed the CD release.
6. You never got the new CD, and you really want it.
7. It’s on a Thursday, so if it sucks, at least you’ve still got the weekend (joke stolen from the late Richard Jeni)
8. The Cosby show has been off the air for years, so your Thursday should be free.
9. Speaking of TV…maybe somebody can TIVO “Lost” and we can make a party out of it the next night.
10. If you’ve never seen me before, then this would be a great chance. If you’ve never seen me before, man, where’ve you been?

Next Thursday at the Sidebar, 8 p.m. See you there!

The Price is Right: a vision of Utopia?

I don’t usually watch this show beyond 5 minutes, but today I feel like ass so I committed to a full hour of the Price is Right.
Today, a perfect show, 6 winners, everybody’s happy. One guy got the price of a bbq package exactly right, which won him the bonus prize of $500. In fact he had a t-shirt that said “I’ve come for the money in Bob’s Pocket” which is exactly what he got (they are still showing repeats from Bob Barker's last days before retiring). In the relative haze of sneezing and feeling gross, the warm fuzzy feeling of seeing hundreds of people genuinely excited for their fellow contestants, minus some of the “you bitch, you undercut my bid” common on contestant’s row (they don’t say it, but you know they think it) just made me feel really happy. It made me wish that life were a little more like the Price is Right, with that sort of “good for you, you win!” in a non-ironic, totally un-hip sort of way. But then again, this could be the Thera-Flu talking.

Lost Bureaucrats

Watching a “Survivor’s Guide” for “Lost”
last night, the creators talked about planting “Easter Eggs” in their episodes: little threads where certain characters we know from the island interact in the flashbacks. In my new story, Low Level Bureaucrats 3, I am attempting something similar, by tying minor characters from part one and two into the action of part three, possibly giving them more depth from their previous appearances. Of course, the TV show is a mystery and my story is sort of a political satire, but I can appreciate the difficulty of continuity and figuring everything out.
Of the creative projects I am undertaking lately, this one is the hardest. Basically the plot has to do with Karl Love’s final revenge against the city of Beatown and I’ve had to go over it a lot to make it make sense, especially with new ideas that I know would make it better.
One thought about how everyone is bitching about the new season of Lost and how much it sucks: if you have been a fan of the first two seasons, doesn’t this show deserve to be cut a little slack for lagging a little? I mean, after all, hasn’t it entertained us for free for two whole years?
Maybe I'm just too sensitive.
